Invention and Innovation in Five-ish Sharps, by Noah Gorman
Presented initially to me as a challenge in a music theory course, I was tasked with creating a work in the stylistic musings of Bach’s ‘Inventions.’ This duet for shared marimba is a short challenge in a baroque style that will test players’ abilities to play as a unified force. The first movement, Invention, is more closely related to Bach’s style. The second movement, Innovation, is meant to be a more modern take on the idea.
Number of Players: 2
Difficulty: Intermediate-Advanced
Instrumentation: Shared Marimba (4.5 octave)
Duration: 1:58
